Blackheath karate stars take massive medal haul

Blackheath Kimura Shukokai Karate Club were highly decorated at their most recent competition with 15 golds to their credit among the medal haul from the SKF Kimura Cup.

The contest brought one of the best results on record for the club who made a major impact on the medals table with a further six silver and six bronze medals for club members.

Instructor Audun Daniels said: "This was a fantastic achievement from the cadets straight through to the adult sections and team events."

There were golds for Jenny Loftus (Ladies' Kata and Ladies' Kumite), Audun Daniels (Men's Black Belt Kata and Men's +77kg Kumite), Paul Richards (Men's -77kg Kumite), Ben Yates (Male 15-17yrs Kumite), Robert Loftus (Boys' 13-14yrs Kumite), Cheyrvonne Bissel (Girls' 13-14yrs Kumite), Stacey Matthews (Girls' 10-12yrs Kumite), Jessie Uppal Girls (8-9yrs Kumite), Jack Guest (Cadet Junior Kata) and Shannon Gibbs (Cadet Junior Kata).

Silvers went to Chris Bennett (Men's -77kg Kumite), Robert Loftus (Cadet Black Belt Kata), Stacey Matthews (Cadet Brown Belt Kata) and Jamie Oliver (Boys 8-9yrs Kumite).

Bronze medals were awarded to Jamie Hall (Men's Black Belt Kata), Dave Maynard (Men's +77kg Kumite), Shannon Gibbs (Girls' 13-14yrs Kumite), Peter Jelf and Ryan Bissell (Boys' 10-12yrs Kumite) and Jack Guest (Boys' 8-9yrs Kumite).

In the team events Blackheath won gold in the Men's Team Kumite, Adult Team Kata and the Cadet Senior Team Kata and they took silver in the Boys' Team Kumite and the Cadet Junior Team Kata.

Also for her outstanding performance Stacey Matthews was awarded competitor of the day.
