Honours for Dormston duo

Two young Sedgley cricketers were rewarded at the recent Staffordshire League Awards Ceremony.

Penn Cricket Club under-11s wicket keeper Nathan Howell was recognised as the top run-maker in the league, while at under-13s level Richard Drew walked away with the top bowling award.

Both pupils attend High Arcal School and also achieved representative honours with Worcestershire.

Nathan as the under-11 keeper and Richard opened the batting for the North Worcestershire district.

Sixteen of last year's academy graduates gained representative honours and the winter academy will start again under the guidance of academy director Nathan Round.

Round himself had success last season as a key member of Walsall Cricket Club's Birmingham League Premier Division winning side.

The academy will run for 20 weeks at The Dormston Centre in Sedgley from November 5.

Penn are looking to foster their already strong links with the senior and primary schools in the Sedgley area and are are keen to encourage greater involvement in girls' cricket.

Winter sessions will also be running at The Dormston Centre for under-11s, The Wolverhampton Grammar School for 11 to 15s and in the New Year for 11 to 15s on Sundays also at Dormston.
