Jordanne takes ambassador role

A teenage Halesowen tennis star enjoyed a date at the home of cricket after being named a national sports ambassador.

Talented Jordanne Whiley was chosen as one of five young wheelchair athletes to promote the Lord's Taverners special needs sports programme.

Jordanne picked up her honour at the prestigious London venue on Monday and met BBC Football Focus host Manish Bhasin.

She was born with brittle bones and joined the competitive circuit in 2004 after picking up a racquet for the first time aged just three.

The award caps off a great year for Jordanne who has already won the International Junior Wheelchair Tennis Camp and the Tomaszewski Cup.

Jordanne was handed her prize after she showed commitment and success in her tennis.

The Earls High School student has also been picked for the Olympic Performance Squad.

Dame Tanni Grey-Thompson, Patron of The Lord's Taverners Sports Wheelchair Sponsorship Scheme, said: "I'm delighted to be part of the Lord's Taverners Sports Ambassadors programme and look forward to being involved with the development of these and future Sports Ambassadors."
