DASH find going tough in relay

Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers' senior men lined up some of the best distance runners the country has to offer in the National Road Relay at Sutton Park at the weekend.

The event was made up of six stages of 5.8km each and, having only just qualified through the Midlands championships, the DASH team found the quality of competition very high.

Several GB internationals were on show but DASH can be quietly satisfied with their performance.

Paul Waby, on the first leg, improved on his time in the Midlands with 19:45, although he did say he found the opening pace very fast.

Lee Slater maintained the club's position with a very good 19:36 handing over to Dave Nation who is more at home on the track running 400m hurdles, but Dave did well to run 22:23.

Dave Eades was drafted in at the last minute to cover for Ian Furness who was unwell and found the pace a bit too fast as the club fell back with Eades running 25:09.

Darren Cooper had a really good run on the fifth leg with 22:45 before handing over to Eddie Fletcher on the last leg who brought the team home in 24:51.

Team manager Jim Brown was quite pleased with the club's performance against such high quality teams and is looking forward to the start of the cross country season on Saturday.

DASH will be looking for a good start having been promoted to Division Two last season.

The club is always looking for keen athletes and anyone interested should visit the club's web site www.dashac.org.uk.
