Old Hales Hockey Club put in an excellent team performance to inflict a bruising 7-1 defeat on visitors Berkswell & Balsall Common on Saturday.
The win moved them further up the DTZ West Midlands One table ready for this weekend's clash at Newtown.
B&B struggled to find any answer to Hales' superior form, beyond a single consolation goal early in the second half, and captain Paul Woodall's side can now go into Saturday's game knowing that they are only three points behind top two Redditch and Old Sils.
It took only ten minutes before Doug Houghton broke through to open the scoring for OH. Tom Bulteel struck again five minutes later, as they continued to camp in the Berkswell area, and then added a second on the 20 minute mark.
Two more goals, one from Chris Hill and the other from Paul Harrold added to the lead before half time.
Hill scored his second after the break before Berkswell's spirits were raised by a goal back. They continued to compete for the next 15 minutes before Paul Woodall finally killed off their hopes.
There was not such good news for OH's second team as they went down to a 5-1 reverse against King's Heath.
