Events that happened in Hob Green in 1980

As reported by the County Express.

Pancake Race Mothers took part in a pancake race at Hob Green Infants' School last week to show the children what a traditional race looked like. The winner was Mrs Joyce Williams. The mothers later helped staff at the school in Hagley to make enough pancakes for all of the children.

Children's mock Royal wedding Children at a Stourbridge school had a preview of the Royal wedding - with a mock-up ceremony.

"Prince Charles" and "Lady Diana Spencer" were married at Hob Green Infants School, Wollescote, yesterday, with seven-year -olds Stuart Checketts and Alison Brown playing the Royal couple.

Stuart wore a navel uniform and Alison wore a white silk and lace dress made by her mum. Her engagement ring cost 25p and her wedding ring was borrowed from one of the parents.

Headmistress Mrs Beryl Derricott said; "This is the culmination of a project to teach the children about what happens at the wedding.

Parents and children saw the mock wedding in the school hall - and then had a reception in the playground.
