Stourbridge Chess Club

THE 2006/2007 chess season is drawing to a close for Stourbridge chess club with just a few matches remaining in the Dudley league.

However, regardless of the results of the remaining matches we are sure of becoming champions of Dudley division 2.

This is a splendid achievement by the team.

All our teams performed well in the Wolverhampton and Birmingham leagues.

In Birmingham division 2, we were in contention for promotion to division 1 but were let down by some poor results in the last couple of matches.

In division 3 we also had promotion chances but again did not quite make it. However with several new and improving players we should be vying for promotion in both divisions next season.

A newly promoted team in Wolverhampton division one and put in a good performance this year to finish mid table.

In division 2 a relatively inexperienced team played extremely well to finish in the top half of the table.

Throughout the Summer the chess club continues to meet on Wednesday nights at 7:30pm at the institute.

There are no league matches however members have the opportunity to play friendly matches or compete in the 5 round internal Summer tournament which starts on June 20th.

The club AGM will be held on May 30th and annual dinner on June 22nd.

Our annual Tony Evers memorial match will take place on June 13th.

If you are interested in joining the chess club or taking part in any of the above events please contact Dave Scriven on 01384 423642.
