Lye & Wollescote Historical Society

THE April meeting of Lye & Wollescote Historical Society was held on 19th April when the talk was "Crossing the Rhine - the last 30 days of WWII" presented by local author Bob Price.

This talk was the second talk taken from his book "A Walk in the Sun" relating his real-life experiences as a young soldier in Europe during the Second World War.

His book and talks are based on his memories and tell of the many frustrating and dangerous situations which face the infantry soldier. Despite the dangers, however, Bob's talk also included tales of army life which were light-hearted and humorous.

The next meeting will be held on 17th May when Roy Allbutt will present a talk entitled "A. E. Lemmon - Stained Glass Designer". A. E. Lemmon designed many stained glass windows throughout the Midlands including the World War II Memorial Window in Christ Church, Lye. The talk will be held at Wollescote Community Centre, Wassell Road, Wollescote at 2.30pm, admission will be £1 and light refreshments will be available.
