MUSICIANS are set to stand up against austerity at two Stourbridge gigs – the first of their kind in the Black Country.

The ‘We Shall Overcome’ events, featuring musical performances and speakers, will take place on Saturday, October 8, at Katie Fitzgerald’s and Sunday, October 9, at Scary Canary The Venue.

Organised by Frankie Prazer and his son Ryan, the two day event – sponsored by Stourbridge Labour and Dudley TUC – will also raise money and awareness for charities Heaven’s Kitchen and We Love Carers.

Frankie said: “We are ready to rock and roll with over 15 acts performing at each gig.

“We will have two days with a host of wonderful people coming along to perform, speak, volunteer and raise money for our two chosen charities.

“These two organisations have done some fantastic work throughout the Black Country in helping those less fortunate, Heaven’s Kitchen feed about 80 to 100 people.”

‘We Shall Overcome’ was launched as a national movement in reaction to the 2015 election. A group of musicians decided to put together a coordinated series of events in defiance of the Tory victory.

Among those appearing over the weekend are Ian Marrey, The Empty Can, Jonny Cole, Sophie Lynch, Eddy Morton, Jess Silk and leader of Dudley Council, Councillor Pete Lowe.

Entry to the gigs, which take place from 2pm until late, cost £2, or by way of a food donation to Heaven’s Kitchen.
