STOURBRIDGE indie musician Nick J Townsend has landed a screening at the Birmingham Film Festival of his first ever feature.

Nick, frontman of long-running metal band WEAK13, is "over the moon" at the news his documentary/mockumentary Clingfilm is to be shown at the festival later this month.

The film, which was shot last year during Nick’s second working visit to Los Angeles, California, features interviews with an array of hard-working Hollywood-based actors, producers, musicians and stuntmen all trying to achieve their dreams of stardom in the movie capital of the world.

Nick, who collaborated with agent and producer Debbie Stewart from Scotland on the project, said: "Each person has a story about why they’re there, it’s a little window to see how other people are trying to make their dreams happen."

Shot in black and white, the film is Nick’s first step into feature-length movie-making - after shooting a host of music videos for various bands including his own.

He said: "I'm pretty chuffed. My film is one of the few feature ones in there.

"It'll be the first time I've seen my film in a cinema and I'm only now confident calling myself a film-maker now my film’s in a film festival."

Nick - who works at Stourbridge’s Base Studios and is currently doing a masters degree in contemporary media at the University of Wolverhampton - stars as a kind of spoof version of himself in the film which he is already making a follow-up to, having shot even more footage during his third and most recent visit to LA in September this year.

It’s not the first time he’s appeared in front of the camera - he’s also worked as an extra on Shameless, Hustle, Doctors and Young Dracula and in 2014 he starred in a short indie flick filmed in Hollywood called Chasing.

Clingfilm 2015 - a Nick J Townsend film, which features a soundtrack by bands from the Black Country and Worcestershire, will be screened at The Mockingbird Cinema, Birmingham, on Sunday November 27 at 4pm on the final day of the three-day Birmingham Film Festival.
