A STOURBRIDGE entertainment venue is opening up as a bar for the first time this evening (Friday, March 13).

ScaryCanary The Venue, in High Street, which has featured spoken word, poetry, concerts and cinema evenings in the past, will now be open as a regular weekend drinking establishment.

This weekend the bar will have a prohibition theme, featuring music from the 20s and 30s as well as a screen with visuals of people dancing the Charleston.

Steve Pilcher, owner of the venue which is situated in the former McDonalds site, said: “We’ve worked really hard to get the venue open as a bar on weekends.

“We’ve had meetings with Dudley Council and local police to make sure we pass all the regulations.

“We didn’t want to have a late night bar that is all about drink promotions, it’s just about getting people in to have a relaxing drink in a nice environment.

“It’s lovely in the evenings when all the candles are lit, which warms the place up a bit.”

ScaryCanary The Venue is offering free entry from 4pm until 11.30pm today, and from noon until 11.30pm tomorrow.
