BILL Bailey, possibly Britain's most instantly recognisable comedian (and certainly one of the most loved), brought his Limboland tour to Wolverhampton's Civic Hall this week.

Regularly seen on our TV screens as a panellist on shows such as QI, Have I Got News For You and Never Mind The Buzzcocks, Bailey's affable avuncularity make him instantly likeable.

Not only is Bailey hilariously funny, he's also a very gifted musician, a talent which is employed to great effect throughout the two hour show.

The brilliant musical interludes included a dub reggae version of the Downton Abbey theme, Happy Birthday in a minor key, a Wulfrunian take of a Moby song featuring recordings taken from the audience, and a death metal rendition of Black Lace's Agadoo.

Bailey's madcap, surreal brand of comedy, characterised by a wry intelligence, has been taken in a slightly different direction in Limboland, with him allowing more room for his stories, such as one about a family holiday to witness the Northern Lights, to flow.

His eclectic range of comedy targets include One Direction, YouTube and David Cameron.

Limboland is a wonderfully entertaining show, crammed full of brilliant comedy and music, that edges Bill Bailey a little closer to becoming a genuine national treasure.
