Harbourside park offers

FORGET JT and Becks. It seems there are two new heart-throbs on the block.

When Rory the Tiger and Bradley Bear took the Showbar stage at Haven's popular Rockley Park complex in Dorset, I thought I'd inadvertently stumbled into a Take That gig.

The screams were deafening and the queue for photos afterwards snaked around the room.

We're always told that kids' tastes are more sophisticated these days, but the popularity of these characters reveals youngsters are still in the market for people dressed up in big furry costumes.

The Showbar was packed every night of our four night stay thanks to the tried and trusted formula of prize bingo, a guest artist - or the energetic Funstars belting out rock anthems - and a disco.

Yours truly was brave enough to enter a music game show on the last night. I lost - but had a great time trying to impersonate Elton John!

And there was no shortage of daytime entertainment for the youngsters plus indoor and outdoor pools and a Sports Zone offering football coaching, archery, bowls, trampolining and an play area. Some of these activities do cost extra.

Situated on the banks of Poole Harbour, Rockley Park also boasts a Blue Flag award-winning beach, a sailing school, a nature reserve offering excellent views and plenty of opportunities for walking, jogging and cycling. The town of Poole is a ten-minute drive away.

We stayed in a three bedroom Gold caravan, which had a power shower in the bathroom and fridge/freezer and microwave in the smart kitchen. The gas fire and central heating were appreciated on a couple of chilly evenings.

If you don't fancy cooking, the Oasis Bar and Restaurant serves traditional family tucker, spicy curries and breakfasts until 11.30am. There's also a fish and chip bar and well stocked convenience store on site.

l Rockley Park is a Haven and British Holidays Park.

There is a choice of accommodation available from the luxurious Gold range through to the more economic Star holiday homes. Prices include entertainment and use of the facilities on park.
