Kanye West has emerged as the unexpected star of I Am Cait, the documentary series following Caitlyn Jenner in the aftermath of her transition to living as a woman.

The first episode has aired in the US, ahead of the show’s UK premiere on August 2.

The rapper, who is married to Caitlyn’s stepdaughter Kim Kardashian, shared some profound words with Caitlyn about her transition.

He told her: “I think it’s one of the strongest things that has happened in our existence as human beings that are so controlled by perception.

“You couldn’t have been up against more, your daughter is a supermodel, you’re a celebrity. And it was still like, ‘F*** everybody, this is who I am.’”

For her part, Caitlyn explained how much she appreciates his support, saying: “Kanye and I have never really been very close, but I love his open-mindedness, and I love how he’s helped Kim come to grips with what’s going on.”

Despite being only on screen for a couple of minutes, Kanye manages to make quite an impression.

The famously severe-faced rapper rarely cracks a smile, but he graced Caitlyn with his best grin. You had to be quick to spot it, though.

People were generally impressed with the rapper’s attitude and sincerity.

Some viewers even got a little emotional about it all.

Many people expressed their respect for Kanye’s straightforward support for Caitlyn.

Kanye also provides a moment of levity when he attempts to explain his “sock shoes” to Caitlyn’s sister Pam (“So tell me about your untied shoelaces”), mumbling an explanation: “The laces are sort of after the fact.”

Ultimately, audiences were impressed with the rapper’s genuine words to Caitlyn.

I Am Cait will air in the UK on E! on August 2.
