One of the most distinctive voices discovered by The X Factor, announcer Peter Dickson, has announced he has quit.

Peter, who has been with the singing show since it started in 2004, said: “After the best 11 years with the X Factor, it’s time for me to check out and cut loose.”

He is not the first mainstay to leave the hit show ahead of the new series, following host Dermot O’Leary and veteran judge Louis Walsh out of the door.

Show supremo Simon Cowell is joined on this year’s judging panel by Cheryl Fernandez-Versini and newcomers Rita Ora and Nick Grimshaw.

Dermot has been replaced by co-hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack.
