Humans star Gemma Chan has revealed there are some exciting things in store when the show starts filming again in Spring next year.

The actress, who plays synth Anita in the hit Channel 4 show, said: “I spoke to the writers and producer recently and they’re all very keen to get going.”

“I think it’s going to be very exciting. I think they really want to expand the world that’s explored in the show and to really go further in exploring the human synth relationships, of all different kinds I should say.”

She is currently treading the boards in the 50th anniversary production of Harold Pinter’s The Homecoming. She’s the only actress in an otherwise all-male cast that includes Keith Allen, Gary Kemp, John Simm, Ron Cook and John Macmillan.

She said: “It’s quite an intense play but I’ve really enjoyed trying to figure out what this character is about.”

“I love doing stage work and I think there’s something about theatre that keeps you really honest. You have the immediacy of the audience there and you can tell immediately if something is working or if a joke has landed or if you are telling the story right.

“I think it’s wonderful, I think it’s good for your soul and I think it’s great to be doing it over Christmas as well.”

Gemma will be spending Christmas day with her family in Kent, but revealed she’s a keen cook and will be having a pre-Christmas dinner for friends.

For Christmas shopping she’ll be heading to her local shops in Notting Hill.

“There are some amazing independent shops around that are great for buying presents in and also there are amazing delis and cafes. It’s really good fun and I can do everything in my local area and get everything I need.”

Gemma is a American Express Shop Small ambassador, encouraging everyone to shop small, particularly on Small Business Saturday on 5 December
