The hype has been building but last night Gary Barlow took to the stage at Venue Cymru.

Tickets to see the former Take That member sold out within minutes of coming on sale late last year and it is clear to see why after last night.

Barlow performed last night and will be on stage again tonight as part of his ‘In Concert’ tour and, from the reviews from theatregoers from last night’s performance, he sure does put on a good show!

This tour has seen Gary play intimate venues across the UK and Ireland including some, such as Venue Cymru, that he has never visited before.

Speaking of his decision to do this he said: “I had such a lot of fun back in 2013 when I played smaller venues because you’re so much closer to the fans. The audience always seem to love the intimacy of it all too.

"I’m really looking forward to playing in a couple of cities I’ve never played before as well as getting the chance to meet the fans there.”

Barlow last toured as a solo artist in 2014 to acclaim from fans and critics alike, he has of course found worldwide fame as a member of British pop group Take That who, since forming in 1989 have won eight BRIT awards, sold over 45 million records and over eight million concert tickets.

Independently he is one of Britain’s most successful songwriters, having written 14 Number One singles as well as being a six-time recipient of an Ivor Novello Award.

His last solo record ‘Since I Saw You Last’ sold more than 600,000 copies and was the ninth biggest selling album that year.

In more recent years Gary has also turned his attention to the world of theatre, composing the score for the hugely successful ‘Finding Neverland’, working with screenwriter Tim Firth and his Take That bandmates to produce ‘The Band’.

His most recent collaboration with Tim Firth ‘Calendar Girls’ which will be at Venue Cymru in October - 23 to 27 (tickets on sale now via www.venuecymru.co.uk).
