THE big screen debut of Black Country comedy character Doreen is to be shown in Stourbridge following a series of sold out screenings across the Midlands.

Doreen The Movie can be seen at Stourbridge Town Hall on Friday November 20 starting at 7.30pm.

The fictional 'lazy cow' character Doreen, devised by Quarry Bank born playwright and videographer David Tristram, became an overnight hit on YouTube when she was seen bemoaning her life on benefits.

And interest in the character, played by Walsall actress Gill Jordan, skyrocketed David on to develop a stage play, a pilot for a TV show, a book and his very own feature-length Doreen movie to satisfy the appetite of fans.

The 110-minute flick premiered at Wolverhampton's Light House Theatre on October 17 at a VIP bash attended by footballing legend Steve Bull who, along with rock star Robert Plant and BBC newsreader Nick Owen, made a cameo appearance in the film.

A host of further screenings followed - all of which sold out.

David, aged 58, said the reaction to Doreen The Movie has been "absolutely tremendous" and as a result he has organised a run of further screenings at Wolverhampton's Light House Theatre from November 13 to 18 plus an airing in Stourbridge.
