IN the first major production since relocating to Stourbridge Town Hall, Tinkers Farm Opera will present the ever-popular musical Fiddler On The Roof.

Taking place between Wednesday May 24 and Saturday May 27, including a matinee on the Saturday, the production – which starts at 7.15pm each evening – follows the story of a Jewish peasant who has to contend with the trial and tribulations of marrying off three of his daughters.

Set in pre-revolutionary Russia, the task is made doubly difficult as his village of Anatevka is ruled by many cultural traditions and all this takes place at a time of growing anti-Sematism which threatens his precious homeland.

The lead role of Tevye will be played by Tam Weir, and Golda, his wife, by Catherine Tabberner. Their daughters are played by Rebecca Bate, Charlie Cameron, Gabby Thompson, Hazel Kennedy and Isabelle Young.

After more than 20 years, Di Hingley returns to the stage playing ‘Yente the Matchmaker’ and John Leaman plays ‘Lazar Wolf the butcher’.

Packed with many well-known songs such as ‘Matchmaker’, ‘If I were a Rich Man’ and ‘Sunrise Sunset’, the musical offers love, laughter and tears and will appeal to audiences of all ages.

Di said: “We are all very excited about this show, as we have attracted a wealth of keen new members, many of whom are taking leading roles.

“We have a new producer, Emma Harley, from Halesowen, and a new musical director, Isabella Warrell, who is currently studying Music at the University of Birmingham.

“Both are looking to make their debut with us a roaring success.

“With our brilliant chorus, local children and Russian dancers we have a show that is not to be missed.”

To promote the show, the cast of TFO will be taking part in a sing-a-long outside Stourbridge’s Tesco store on Saturday (May 13) between 11.30am and 12.30pm.

Many of the principal cast will be present, and any tickets ordered that day will be sold at a £1 discount.

Tickets, priced at £15 for adults and £7.50 for children, can also be ordered on line at www.boroughhalls.co.uk/tinkers-farm-opera.html or via a member of the company.
