THE third chapter of the rebooted Planet of the Apes franchise concludes with a cataclysmic showdown which is set to hit cinemas this week.

War for the Planet of the Apes shows the final battle between the last remnants of mankind and genetically enhanced apes, who have collectively weathered the storm of Simian Flu.

The sci-fi franchise was brought back to life in in 2011 with Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes and continued three years later with Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.

In the latest outing, Caesar (Andy Serkis), his wife Cornelia (Judy Greer) and their two sons Blue Eyes (Max Lloyd-Jones) and Cornelius (Devyn Dalton) are living in exile in the woods with the rest of the apes, but under the cover of darkness, Colonel McCullough (Woody Harrelson) and his sharp-shooting soldiers stage an assault on the ape stronghold and kill most of Caesar's family.

The grief-stricken leader orders the survivors to flee for a new home while he exacts revenge on the Colonel.
