A TOP class charity production of Charles Dickens’ classic seasonal tale A Christmas Carol is proving a festive treat for theatre fans.

Parable Arts theatre company is bringing to life the much-loved story of miserly London money lender Ebeneezer Scrooge, who is visited by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future on Christmas Eve, at Stourbridge’s Bonded Warehouse.  The show, which debuted on November 24, also runs on December 15 and 16 at the historic Canal Street venue which has been proving the perfect setting for the spooky festive favourite.

Live music from The Salvation Army Band adds to the Christmassy atmosphere of the professional production, directed by Miriam Sarin, which is quirky, imaginative and polished - and held together by a terrifically capable cast of just four actors.

Rich Hasnip puts his all into bringing to life penny-pinching Ebeneezer Scrooge as he is taken on a journey of salvation by the spirits, making the role his own and resisting the temptation to emulate Michael Caine’s version from The Muppets Christmas Carol.  Peter Kirkby proves his versatility as Scrooge’s loyal and mild-mannered clerk Bob Cratchit the ghost of Christmas Past and other characters.

While Jon Buckeridge holds the play together fabulously as the storyteller - blending seamlessly into the action at various points throughout to play Scrooge’s charming, happy go-lucky nephew Fred and other supporting characters.

And Rebecca Rogers is wonderfully natural and vivacious in a host of different roles including charity collector Do Good, Bob Cratchit’s wife and the love of Scrooge’s life - Belle.

The show is a worthy and enjoyable take on a timeless Christmas classic - and all proceeds from the outings will go to The Salvation Army to help the homeless and those facing financial hardship this festive season.
