KINVER will be alive with the sound of music when the much-loved musical is staged at Edgecliff School Theatre in village.

Kinver Light Operatic Society is gearing up to present the Midlands premiere of the re-released Sound of Music.

The popular Rodgers and Hammerstein musical, about a nun who leaves an Austrian convent to become a governess to a widowed Naval officer’s seven children, will run at the Enville Road school theatre from May 14 to 19.

Society spokesman Charlotte Wood, who is playing the lead role of Maria, said: “We feel very lucky to be the first amateur dramatic society in the area to be performing the re-released stage production.

“I think it’s going to be a super family show.”

Comprising around 40 cast members, the show features a number of brothers and sisters, mothers and daughters.

Youngest performer Bella Moreton, aged eight, stars as Gretl Von-Trapp; while her mum Cathy Moreton plays Sister Sophia.

Millie Brown will be playing Brigitta Von-Trapp while her brother Joe Brown will play Nazi soldier Rolf.

Ellie Woodward stars as Louisa Von-Trapp - and her mom Rachel Woodward is playing a nun in the show.

While seasoned operatic star Tim Brown will be playing Captain Von Trapp.

Performances start at 7.30pm nightly and there will be a 2.30pm matinee show on Saturday May 19.
