Halesowen's A & CC's young up and coming riders did themselves proud when they travelled up to the North East to begin their quest for glory against the country's top performers.

They assembled for the first of the National Circuit Series of Races on a tough and undulating course and when combined with a gusting wind, provided a stern test for even the strongest of riders.

Halesowen's finest proved to be more than equal to the challenge with two riders returning to the Midlands with silverware as Josh Papworth won a titanic final sprint to win the U14 Boys race and Jessica Booth dominated her rivals to take the U16 girls trophy in another hotly contested sprint finish. Both riders can look forward to a successful season as the club continues to produce riders who can beat the best. The winners were well supported elsewhere on the day by a team including Oliver Kay (U10s) Matt Bailey, Tom Weickowski and Matt Booth (U16s) and Tom Baker and Jess Weickowski in the U14s. Tom Baker rode particularly well to ride across a 40 second gap to the leaders and finish a commendable fifth in his race.
