AGE UK Dudley’s LEAP Over 50 Project is offering a new programme of bike rides to encourage older people across the borough to get outside, get active and make new friends this winter.

The new Get Cycling for 50 Plus programme runs from December to February 2013 and include rides of four to five miles for novices and those returning to cycling after a long time out of the saddle.

There are also 13 mile routes along canal towpaths, disused railway lines and quiet streets on offer for those with more experience.

LEAP Project co-ordinator Maggie Thompson said: “The rides are not only a means of transport into the countryside and our industrial heritage but also a means to gain confidence, skill and strength whilst cycling.”

As well as cycling, Age UK Dudley is also co-ordinating a series of walks through its Healthy Footsteps for 50 Plus scheme until the end of December – and a new programme will start up in January running through to March 2013.

The charity also offers indoor activities such as sailing model boats, Zumba, digital imaging and luncheon clubs at venues across the borough through its LEAP Over 50 Project.
