A PAIR of Oldswinford students went further than the extra mile to raise a whopping total for a good cause.

Edward Walker and Harry Browne, both aged 17, from Old Swinford Hospital School completed the Warwickshire Triathlon to scoop 1,500 for the Thomas Pocklington Trust.

The super-fit sports fanatics took part in the Sprint category of the event, which comprises a 400m swim, 23km cycle and a 5km run.

Edward Walker said; “During the summer holidays we decided to set ourselves the challenge of completing a triathlon and make it more worthwhile by raising money for charity.

We chose the Pocklington Trust as we have entertained the residents at the Stourbridge centre with the OSH music groups.

“Although complete triathlon novices, we spent considerable time researching different techniques and tactics, and then got down to serious training. Both Harry and I are involved in sport at Old Swinford Hospital - I am first XV hockey captain and Harry is a member of the rugby thirds.”

The Stourbridge-based Pocklington Trust offers support for blind people support to lead an independent life.

Jackie Tromans, day opportunity support worker at the Thomas Pocklington Trust said: “We would like to congratulate and thank Edward Walker and Harry Browne for their outstanding achievement in both completing the triathlon and raising such an incredible of amount of money for our charity.

"Old Swinford Hospital has supported our day opportunities for some time now with their talented music group, but the triathlon has taken this relationship even further, building on community links and enhancing the lives of people who have a sight loss.

"The money will be put to good use to improve our sensory garden enabling our service users to enjoy the outside space we have.”
