BLACK Country musicians are set to say goodbye to a man who spent decades at the heart of midlands music.

The funeral of Bob Nash, who collapsed and died at his home in Love Lane, Oldswinford, on the evening of Saturday December 7, will take place tomorrow (Friday December 21).

Mr Nash ran the Modern Music shop in Dudley for 35 years, supplying and maintaining equipment for stars including John Bonham, Slade and Roy Wood.

After his retirement eight years ago Mr Nash remained a familiar figure to the region's musicians by working part-time in the service and repair department at Stourbridge Music Centre, Lower High Street.

Matt Cox, from Stourbridge Music Centre, said: "He was an unsung hero, his contribution was huge but he was not necessarily as well-known as he should have been.

"Modern Music was one of the first proper rock n roll shops in the area, prior to that they were all piano shops which didn't deal with guitars or amps."

Mr Nash's funeral will take place at Stourbridge Crematorium at 3.30pm.
