IT WAS smiles all round for a 45-year old scout group who were targeted by thieves, as they said a big thank you to community members who came to their aid in their hour of need.

1st Bromley-Pensnett Scout Group, were left without thousands of pounds of equipment after burglars ransacked their Bromley scout hut back in September.

As well as causing significant damage to their hut, thieves also stole their large tents, which prevented them from taking part in a camping trip as planned, as well as taking electrical and gardening equipment and even their tuck-shop sweets.

Following the news, group leaders were inundated with offers of help by businesses and the community.

They were offered many items in replacement for those stolen, including doors, tents, saws, gazebos and even a new burglar alarm.

To express their gratitude the 60 plus Beavers, Cubs and Scouts who use the club, held a party to mark their milestone anniversary and invited everyone who had helped them out.

Lisa Passmore, fundraising committee volunteer, said: “We held this party as our way of thanking them, with the children making a big thank you poster which was put on the wall.

“It was amazing how people came together to help us and we are so grateful. We couldn’t have done it without their help. We are hoping this year will be a better year for us.”

The group are continuing to hold fundraising events for the group with a fashion show planned for February 28.
