A WOLLASTON pub is kicking off a celebration of midlands sportsmen who paved the way for today's black football stars.

The Britannia Sports Bar, High Street, will be playing host to West Bromwich Albion legends Bob Taylor, Tony Brown and Cyrille Regis on Wednesday February 20 to start the Celebration Statue Tour.

The tour will be visiting venues around the Black Country to raise cash for a statue in honour of Albion players Laurie Cunningham, Cryille Regis and Brendon Batson, who were some of the first afro-Carribean footballers to play at the highest level in Britain.

The tour will feature a mini version of the statue, the full-sized version will be located in West Bromwich town centre after fundraising for its construction is completed.
