A MEMORIAL service will be held at a Dudley church next week – 55 years to the day since Duncan Edwards died.

St Francis Church in Laurel Road hosted the iconic footballer’s funeral in 1958 and has two stained glass windows dedicated to the town great – which fans from around the globe still continue to visit.

A service to remember Duncan will take place at 11am on Thursday, February 21 – the day he lost his brave fight for life over five decades ago.

Duncan, who was aged 21 at the time, died 15 days after that fateful day when bad weather caused the Manchester United team’s flight home from Munich to crash.

A total of 21 people lost their lives in the tragedy, including sports journalists and several of Duncan’s team mates.
