Artist Luke Perry chosen for Stourbridge Library project

AN INTERNATIONALLY renowned Wollaston artist has been chosen to create new artwork for the entrance of Stourbridge Library.
Artist and TV historian Luke Perry is busy sculpting a stand out feature for atrium for the Crown Centre library, which is being redesigned as part of the Tesco development.
The sculptor, who last year completed the memorial to trade unionist Mary Macarthur in Cradley Heath, wants local people to help him out with the Stourbridge project.
He said: “I was delighted to be chosen to do this project as it is on my doorstep and we have been working with the staff and everyone involved in the library.
“We are going for a kind of suspended origami feature which will hang in the new atrium so it will be the first thing visitors see.”
Mr Perry, aged 29, is throwing the creative process open through a series of workshops.
He said: “It will look like a flock of flying books and each one can be individually designed so I am holding a series of workshops during half term so people can get involved.
“Whether people are young and old they can join in and help design a book about something special to them, whether it be local heritage or the latest cartoon.”
The workshops will be held next Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday between 10am and 2.30pm.
