Russells Hall patient died from infected wound after surgery

A RETIRED hotelier from Brierley Hill died after contracting a wound infection following a hip replacement operation at Russells Hall Hospital.

Barry Hipkins, aged 73, of Broadlands Drive, developed septicaemia and aspiratory pneumonia as a result of the wound infection, an inquest was told.

Black Country coroner Robin Balmain recorder a verdict that death was due to known complications from an elective surgical procedure.

“There is nothing about his post operative care that causes me concerns,” he said.
