IT was a pirate’s life for staff and students at The Wordsley School as they enjoyed a swashbuckling day of fundraising for Comic Relief.

Headteacher Michael Lambert transformed himself into Jack Sparrow on Red Nose Day (Friday March 15) while teachers and pupils each paid £1 to turn up to lessons in pirate attire.

A host of pirate-themed activities took place throughout the day - which raised £810 for the annual appeal which helps people in poverty in the UK and some of the world’s poorest countries.

Children sold hot chocolate and pirate cakes at break-time and staged a variety of games including ‘find the hidden treasure chest’ and ‘guess the number of eggs in a pirate boat’.

Students also held a vote to determine which of their mentors would have to walk the plank - into the school swimming pool.
