SAINSBURY’S stores in Amblecote and Merry Hill are looking for a new Black Country cause to support this year.

Both stores have been successful is raising money for charity over the past four years and want to continue the work.

Last year alone, Sainsbury’s Amblecote store raised £5,790-93p for their chosen charity Brierley Hill based INSIGHT for Carers Service, although money is still rolling in.

Customers and colleagues combined to raise money from an auction night together with a sponsored slim by checkout employees.

And they are still counting the cash from a recent sponsored walk over Snowdon which saw 53 colleagues taking part.

Money raised went towards repairing a leaking roof at INSIGHT’s Pearson Street base whose spokesperson Loraine Stockton said: “Working with Sainsbury’s Amblecote over the past 12 months has made such a difference to our charity.

“The money raised helped get our building ready for opening at the end of last year, so we now have somewhere the charity can call home.

“Sainsbury’s also supported our application to Media Trust, who have arranged to have a film made about our charity”.

The Merry Hill store have also been active raising cash through raffles, prizes, bag packs and donations.

Since the Sainsbury’s stores have become local charity partners, they have raised over £26,000 between them.

Now the Sainsbury’s stores want customers to help nominate a charity by filling in nomination forms which are now available in-store.

Amblecote store manager Vernon Dix said: “We hope customers can take the time to vote in the coming weeks and give a local charity that is close to their hearts a chance for us to support them.”

Sainsbury’s will announce the winning charity in June.
