CLENT children’s home Sunfield has been chosen as an official charity of the Great Black Country Run.

The Rotary Club of Halesowen and Rowley Regis organises the event which will be run around the streets of Halesowen on Sunday, September 22.

Sunfield is one of the chosen charities that will receive a donation from the overall proceeds of the event, but individual runners and teams can also raise sponsorship directly for Sunfield.

Rotarian Alan Bowler, who is organising the event said: “Sunfield are such a worthwhile charity and Rotary has been proud to support them over many years.

“We hope that the wider community will get behind them by either running, walking or sponsoring participants.

“We want the event to be a fun annual event that also benefits local charities, last year’s fun run was a massive success but the new The Great Black Country Run will be bigger and better.”

All the money raised will help Sunfield buy a new vehicle to enable the children of Sunfield to access community facilities more often.

Siận Williams, director of marketing and development, said: “Sunfield has raised over £2,000 towards its Vehicle Appeal in the last couple of months and we are hoping that this event will help us raise another few thousand pounds.”

She added: “Two of our students are really looking forward to taking part and will be accompanied by Sunfield staff and supporters including a runner from Barclays Bank.”

“A new people carrier will mean we can take smaller groups of students on more outings and visits, something they really benefit from and enjoy Sunfield are currently recruiting as many runners as possible.”

In addition to the five kilometre fun run there will be a 10km road race to encourage more serious runners to take part.

Sunfield is a national UK charity and residential special school supporting children and young people aged six to 19-years-olds who have complex needs including autism.
