Nothing fishy about Pedmore chip shop's charity day

A PEDMORE chippy owner will donate a day’s takings to Cancer Research UK.
But here’s nothing fishy about Loucas Kourouyianni’s generous gesture - the owner of Pedmore Fish Bar just wants to give something back.
The 38-year-old was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma, a cancer originating from white blood cells called lymphocytes, in 1998.
Following surgery and radiotherapy treatment he was given the all clear in 2002.
He explained that the idea for the fundraiser followed a chat with breast cancer survivor Sylvia Horton: “I’ve had cancer, Sylvia has had cancer and there are a few people around this area that have suffered with it and so on, so I thought we could do something to raise a little money towards cancer research.”
After a brainstorming session, the pair decided to hold a fun day at the Queensway chippy on Monday September 3, where customers can treat themselves to fish and chips between noon and 8pm in the knowledge that all of the cash would go to charity.
Mrs Horton, from Pedmore, also came up with the idea of involving youngsters with a colouring competition, an idea that was welcomed by Mr Kourouyianni who will provide the winner with a £20 voucher for the chip shop.
Mr Kourouyianni said although the event would leave him out of pocket, it didn’t bother him as he would be “doing something for a good cause”.
