New Lye police hub opens
12:52pm Thursday 29th August 2013 in News
POLICE in Lye and Stourbridge North are opening a new 'hub' in the heart of the community.
The policing hub has been set up at Lye Crosswalks Community Centre to enable members of the public to meet neighbourhood officers at a convenient location - following the closure of Lye Police Station in 2012.
Police are now inviting residents in the area to treat the hub as a drop-in centre where they can speak to officers about any issues or concerns.
Sergeant Lynn Couldrey, neighbourhood policing manager, said: "I think this is a really positive move which gives us more opportunities to spend time in the area, dealing with the things that matter most to the community.
“Residents already know that when the shutters are up, we are in.”
Police are also thinking of hosting regular neighbourhood PACT (police and communities together) meetings and Neighbourhood Watch open days at the centre.
Abdul Qadus, chairman of Crosswalks Community Centre, said: "The police hub will help increase the visibility of officers, increasing the trust and confidence members of the community have in the police."
The next Lye and Stourbridge North neighbourhood PACT meeting will take place on Tuesday October 1 at 7pm at Lye Cricket Club, Pedmore Road.
