Store bosses offer £10,000 reward following armed raid in Wordsley
4:41pm Tuesday 24th September 2013 in News
TWO men armed with a hammer, threatened staff at a convenience store in Wordsley Green before they prised open the tills and stole cash, cigarettes and alcohol.
The incident happened at around 10.30pm on Monday (September 23) at the Spar shop in Wordsley Green Shopping Centre.
Police said the pair were wearing ski masks when they burst into the shop, threatened staff with the weapon and jumped the counter to steal the goods.
It is believed the men, who were wearing dark clothes and carrying cream coloured builders’ sacks, ran into an alleyway before getting into a car and driving off.
Spar bosses are now offering a £10,000 reward for anyone who can provide information leading to their arrests.
Detective constable Mark Fletcher, from Force CID, said: "Although nobody working at the shop was injured this was a frightening experience and they were left very shaken by what happened.
"The men were wearing dark clothing and ski masks and someone may have seen them carrying the distinctive builders’ sacks out of the shop.”
He continued: “Although this happened fairly late in the evening there is a good chance there may have been other people in the area who may have seen the men either entering the store or fleeing.”
A Spar spokesperson added: “This is a police matter and we are cooperating fully with their investigations. While no-one was hurt in the incident, the safety of our staff and customers is paramount to us and we are offering a reward of £10,000 for any information that leads to an arrest.”
Anyone with information about the robbery should contact police on 101 or call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
