Open day at Wollescote Park
3:44pm Thursday 26th September 2013 in News
AN open day at the award winning Wollescote Park will provide fun for all the family.
The event will give locals the chance to find out what activities take place at the park and share ideas about what could be improved with the volunteers from Friends of Wollescote.
Visitors will be welcomed by The Friends at the Wollescote Road park on Saturday October 5, from 10.30am-3pm.
There will be a display of photographs of the park and surrounding area, a tombola, vegetable quiz and a visit from Stourbridge Bike Users Group.
Additionally, the Lye and Wollescote Historical Society will also be at the park, keen to talk to any residents with memories or old photographs of the area.
It will be an opportunity for the public to see the hard work put in by The Friends, the local Greencare team and the parks development team at Dudley Council to receive a Green Flag Award.
The award, which was given to the park in July by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy and flagged it up as one of the best green spaces in the country.
Jo Lees, secretary of The Friends, said: “We are really pleased with what we have achieved this year, the park is a lovely place with bowls, football and tennis being played regularly.
“There is a vegetable growing group and weekly exercise classes; we are always looking for more people to get involved in making Wollescote Park a friendly, welcoming place for everyone.”
The park can be reached by car from Wollescote Road, or on foot from Springfield Avenue, Spring Street or Pedmore Road.
