Brierley Hill business joins council to beat scrap bandits
1:00pm Sunday 29th September 2013 in News
A BRIERLEY Hill business has teamed up with Dudley Council for a new drive to beat scrap bandits.
Mason Metals Ltd have extended their scrap collection service ahead of the introduction of new laws in October forcing sites and mobile collectors to be licensed and listed on a national register.
During the summer the company began free collections across the borough for people referred to the company from the council's website.
The scheme has been so popular that the Two Woods Lane firm has now established a daily collections scheme.
Mason’s managing director, Andrew Jones, said: "Residents are given a date and time. They receive a Waste Transfer Note after a collection; listing what they have disposed of and proving they have acted responsibly and legally. We then bring the items back to our site where they correctly enter the recycling chain."
House holders as well as businesses must dispose of waste legally and environmentally. Waste illegally fly-tipped by unlicensed collectors which is traced back to residents can lead to fines of up to £50,000 and a year in jail.
