11:35am Thursday 3rd October 2013 in News
A WORDSLEY man has been arrested after a have-a-go hero stopped a robbery taking place on Saturday (September 28).
A 56-year-old woman had parked her Porsche Boxster on Junction Road, when two men opened the car door and threatened her with what appeared to be a knife.
They demanded her car keys and stole a bag from the passenger seat, containing a large amount of cash.
A 13-year-old boy, who saw what was happening, raised the alarm and flagged down a passing motorist.
The driver jumped out of his car and ran over to the woman, dragging the alleged robber from the car.
When the alleged robber tried to flee, the have-a-go hero chased him and wrestled him to the ground.
The suspected thief then jumped up and ran away, leaving the car keys and cash behind.
The woman wasn't injured during the ordeal.
A man, aged 31, was arrested on Tuesday (October 1) from an address in Wordsley, on suspicion of robbery. He has been bailed until November.
Detective Bobby Khan, from Sandwell CID, said: "This must have been a terrifying ordeal and we would like to thank those, who without thinking about their own safety, came to the aid of this woman.”
He continued: “We continue to investigate the circumstances around the robbery and have arrested a man but we are still making enquiries as we believe that another person may have been involved and still need people to come forward with information.”
Anyone with information should call the police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
