Funeral of renowned Stourbridge glass designer set for Friday
9:00am Thursday 10th October 2013 in News
THE funeral of an influential Stourbridge glass designer will be held tomorrow (Friday).
Renowned post-war British designer John Luxton, who spent his entire career with the old Stuart Crystal glassmaking firm based in Camp Hill, died on September 29 aged 93.
Charles Hajdamach, one of the country’s leading glass experts, described his passing as a “great loss to the industry”.
Old Hill-born Mr Luxton, who lived in Hagley, was a major figure who, along with Irene Stevens and David Hammond, drastically altered the cut glass scene in the UK.
His funeral will be held at Stourbridge Crematorium, South Road, Stourbridge, on Friday October 11 at 3.30pm.
Tributes to Mr Luxton can be paid on a Facebook page (www.facebook.com/G.J.Luxton) on which his grand-daughter Katrina Luxton plans to post designs by her grandfather that have never been seen publicly before.
