SEVERAL craft studios at Wordsley’s Red House Glass Cone will be closed on Sunday (October 13) as the final phase of redevelopment work takes place.
For the past 18 months, work has been taking place on the site to create new studio spaces, a gift centre and a coffee shop.
Existing craft businesses on the site have expanded and new ones have joined the thriving creative hub, which now boasts 19 businesses including a ceramicist, clockmaker and fused glass artist.
As part of the redevelopment, a new power supply will be installed in the former Stuart Crystal Factory part of the site, which means that the Stourbridge Crystal Centre, Stuart’s Clocks and Gifts, Saz’s Ceramics, Red Cone Coffee House and Jane Ellis and Sarah Jones studios will have to close for one day.
Access to the rest of the site including the visitor centre, gift shop, exhibition spaces, cone itself, canal and other craft studios will be unaffected during this time.
Councillor Tracy Wood, cabinet member for environment and culture, said: “It’s been fantastic to see so much development on site, with the cone a real draw for both businesses and visitors. The one day closure of the coffee house and some of our craft studios will enable us to offer an even better facility to our business owners and our many visitors.”
