CAMPAIGNERS in Quarry Bank celebrated after Dudley Council bosses announced plans to axe seven borough children’s centres had been scrapped.

Before they received the good news, parents who use the services at the Quarry Bank Children's Centre, had organised a peaceful protest in the form of a buggy march to voice their objections.

But when they were told the centre had been saved, they decided to turn the proteston Friday (November 29) into a celebration .

Kyra Hill, vice chairman of the centre's Parents Voice group, said: "There was about 20 of us marching up and down the high street and then we released balloons when we got back to the centre. Everyone was in high spirits."

Miss Hill, aged 25, who has used the centre regularly since her daughter, Lilly, aged two, was a newborn, added: “We will still be campaigning because there are going to be some cuts in the future, it doesn't mean all of the services will still be on offer.

"Keeping the centre open means the support is still there for the community, people can still walk in and get advice as and when they need it.”
