Temporary Tesco staff heading for the dole queue before Christmas

Stourbridge News: 47 temporary staff have been told they are no longer required 47 temporary staff have been told they are no longer required

STAFF at a Stourbridge supermarket have been told they will be out of a job by Christmas as their contracts will not be extended.

The 47 temporary staff recruited to help the 352 permanently contracted employees with the opening of the multi-million pound Tesco Extra store have been told their services are no longer required.

A Tesco spokesman said: "Whenever we open a new store it is normal that we take on a number of temporary colleagues to support the permanent team members.

"Unfortunately we are not able to extend the temporary contracts. Everyone on a temporary contract has been made aware of other opportunities in the business and we will be supporting them should they wish to pursue these."

None of the 98 long-term unemployed people, who were recruited as part of the Regeneration Partnership have been affected.

In fact these employees will be replaced with forced labour through the government's morally corrupt & notorious "workfare program". Free labour supplied by the job centre and companies like A4e under the pretence of "helping" the unemployed!!. People can expect Tesco to further reduce its work force as it increases is use of slave labour In the new year. This sort of practice is not exclusive to the likes of Tesco and will become even more common as the ideological dogma of the government drives down wages and forces the poor to work for free. Think I"m exaggerating?, feel free to do your own research and be prepared to be shocked at what you find!

The majority of retailers take extra seasonal staff at Christmas, and they know they are only there for the festive period. A small percentage get kept on if good enough, but if not needed then they are let go, as per the conditions of their contract. It's a business, they are there to make money. They can't be expected to keep excess staff for no reason. Sadly, that's the reality of it.

I think somebody needs to buy Halesowen News a dictionary for christmas, temporary means short term, which means it's not hard to understand, unless you're stupid, that they are not going to keep there job when no longer needed, this is nothing more than a non story, which is not worthy of this internet space that it seems to have been given.
