DUDLEY Council is set to launch a one-stop web page with key winter weather information.

Forecasters are predicting a harsh winter and the authority aims to make it easy for people to access vital information on gritting runs and routes, grit bin locations and information about work to help keep roads moving during the bad weather.

School closures, bin collections and other council services affected by the weather will also be included on the page, and there will also be advice on keeping well and warm during the winter.

People will also be able to get information from the council’s social media pages on Twitter and Facebook.

Cllr David Sparks, leader of Dudley Council, said: “The more information people have, the better they can plan their journeys on the roads and the rest of their day.”

The council’s 40-strong gritting team continuously monitors weather conditions and and plunge in temperatures would trigger an operation to keep the borough’s 300 miles of road clear.

Last winter Dudley gritters went out 102 times during 74 days to treat borough roads, using a total of 6,500 tonnes of grit.

The council’s winter watch page can be found at www.dudley.gov.uk

Information will also be added to the council’s e-bulletin service. People can sign up by emailing their postcode to community.council@dudley.gov.uk
