AN aspiring Stourbridge chef cooked his way to success when he won the local heat of the Rotary Young Chef competition.
Hagley Catholic High School student Edward Oakes took part in the cooking contest at Pedmore Technology College on Wednesday December 4.
The 15-year-old competed against pupils from the hosting college, Oldswinford Hospital School and Redhill School, and had to prepare, cook and serve a healthy main course meal and dessert for two people, spending just £10 on ingredients.
Edward's winning menu was fillet of salmon with roasted new potatoes, asparagus, roasted vine tomatoes with a sweet chilli sauce followed by conference pears, poached in spiced apple sauce, served with quenelles of vanilla cream.
The food technology student, who has also been attending the Young Chefs Academy at The University College of Birmingham, was given a cash prize of £50 and chef whites.
