A BLACK Country charity has been awarded £4,937 to help people with brain injury develop their photography skills.

Headway Black Country will offer photography classes to clients to aid rehabilitation by improving concentration, communication and encouraging creative thinking.

The Dudley based charity received the grant from the Santander Foundation’s Community Plus initiative, which provides grants of up to £5,000 for projects that help disadvantaged people in local communities.

Customers and staff at the bank's Merry Hill branch were asked to nominate local charities in need of assistance and Headway, which helps to improve the lives of survivors of brain injury, received the most votes.

Sue Bullas, the charity's day services manager, said: “Following brain injury, using modern technology can become very difficult for survivors. Having the opportunity to learn new skills or relearn lost ones helps to support recovery, often resulting in increased confidence and independence.

"The grant will provide us with another activity session which will provide new learning opportunities for our clients.”

Danielle Fullwood from Santander's Merry Hill branch, added: “We are delighted to be supporting the Headway Black Country and hope the donation makes a real difference to local people.”
