GENEROUS staff at Scot Young Research Ltd in Lye raised nearly £2,000 for the British Red Cross to help relief efforts in the Philippines in the wake of the devastating Typhoon Haiyan.
When chairman Scot Young heard about the November 8 disaster, which has killed over 5,000 people, injured thousands more and displaced millions, he organised a collection - urging employees at the firm on Lye By Pass to dig deep to help those affected.
An initial £457.48 was raised – with one member of staff donating £100 – and Mr Young was so “flabbergasted” at how employees had pulled together that he decided to triple the amount coined in, to bring the total raised for the charity’s relief appeal to £1,829.92.
