CHILDREN at a Wollaston school paid tribute to Nelson Mandela by creating a mosaic image of the man who became South Africa’s first black president.
Youngsters at The Ridge Primary School got busy on the picture before the legendary figure passed away on December 5, aged 95, while learning about his battle to end apartheid and create a multi-racial democracy in South Africa.
Now, following his death, it stands as a commemorative display in the Gregory Road school – which year four class teacher Jenny Simpson said “looks fantastic”.
She added: “Year four had been learning about apartheid and Nelson Mandela as part of our Out of Africa project and they’d learnt a lot about him. I’m so proud of them. I think the mosaic just looks amazing.”
