MARY Stevens Hospice is targeting people who want to get fit but lack motivation with its latest fundraising appeal.

Throughout Fitness February, the Oldswinford hospice is encouraging people to set themselves a challenge or weight loss target and get sponsored to ensure they see it through.

Ideas include swimming 21 miles, the equivalent of the Channel, at a local swimming pool, dusting off the bike and cycling 874 miles throughout the month, which would be the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats.

Alternatively, fundraisers could climb 1,576 steps, which is what it would take to get to the top of the Empire State Building.

The hospice’s community fundraiser, Vanessa Wale, said: “You never know this could be the start of the new, fitter, healthier you for 2014, with the added bonus of knowing you are supporting our hospice.”
